Redensyl vs Minoxidil: what's the difference?
Minoxidil is a medicine with stronger clinical evidence for hair loss, and it should be used with advice from a doctor. Redensyl is a cosmetic ingredient, supplied by Givaudan, with limited, mostly supplier-funded evidence; serums that contain it support the look of fuller, denser hair. A cosmetic serum is not a replacement for medical treatment, so if you are losing hair, consult a dermatologist.
Important: Redensyl and minoxidil are not equivalent. Minoxidil is a medicine with stronger clinical evidence for hair loss. Redensyl is a cosmetic ingredient with limited, mostly supplier-funded evidence. A cosmetic serum is not a replacement for medical treatment. If you are losing hair, consult a dermatologist.

What Redensyl is
Redensyl is a branded cosmetic active sold to hair-care brands by Givaudan Active Beauty. On its product label it appears as Dihydroquercetin Glucoside, EGCG Glucoside, Glycine and Zinc Chloride. Givaudan's own product page describes it as targeting stem cells and dermal papilla fibroblasts in the hair follicle; that description is supplier data.
A 2025 review in the International Journal of Trichology lists Redensyl at concentrations of 1%–3% and notes that most of the studies behind it are small, often sponsored, and frequently test Redensyl together with other ingredients. Products that contain Redensyl, such as Dense, are sold as cosmetics.
What minoxidil is
Minoxidil is a drug. MedlinePlus, the U.S. National Library of Medicine's consumer health service, describes topical minoxidil as a liquid applied to the scalp that “is used to stimulate hair growth and to slow balding”. MedlinePlus also notes that it must be used for at least 4 months, and possibly up to a year, before any effect is seen, and that new hair is usually lost within a few months of stopping.
Because it is a medicine, whether minoxidil suits you, and how to use it, is a question for a doctor or pharmacist. This page does not give dosing advice.

Can you use both?
If you already use minoxidil or any other medicine on your scalp, ask the doctor who advised it before adding another product. Do not stop or change a medicine on your own.
